You should know that there are a couple of characters on this forum who are implementing a vendetta against Scan.
There are a lot of satisfied Scan owners out there. I have also seen posts from dissatisfied Aiwa owners - so it is not cut and dried.

Many of us think the Scan is good value (especially if, like me, you have a big collection of MP3`s); it is made in Korea like the Aiwa.

It depends on how many features you need. You will be very limited with the Toshiba. It is a good idea to check right through this site regarding the Scan and make up your own mind regarding the praise / critism factor
ignoring the pricks that just endlessly input blatant negativity.
Personally i would rather buy from a shop where you can confront the dealer face to face should problems arise.

As for the Daewoo, the previous model had the same pixellation problems
as the Scan, but there is an upgraded version out now that is supposed to be very impressive. My new one is arriving on Monday so we shall see. If the picture quality has improved i will be delighted because it does everything else MULTI REGION, MACRO FREE, MP3, VCD, CD excellently. So at least demo one. Good luck.

Let`s clean up the act guys. This forum should be about info not abuse OK. Mainstream players like the Toshiba are almost always going to offer better AV quality than the Chinese / Korean kit but the latter overall may offer better value for money. Remember a better player to-day is better than a perfect player tomorrow!

As far as I am aware only the Scan has received the upgrade to the chipset which will sort out the pixellation, therefore do not even think about the Daewoo - I took mine back it was so bad, just try watching any of the Alien films with their dark and smokey corridors.

My Scan should arrive on Monday - needles to say if the new chip does not satisfy me it will also be going back but I hope it doesn`t come to that.

By the way, I would have ordered the Aiwa if I could have got hold of one but they are rarer than hens teeth just now. Or so I thought until I went into Comet in Kinnaird Park, Edinburgh today where they would have given me the display model for £190. DOH!! Still, the Scan should do the trick.
