JVC AV28R25EKS tilted picture problem
Hi. I`ve just bought this TV and am very impressed except there is a slight tilt sloping upwards from left to right. I don`t want the hassle of returning it (very heavy!) and wondered if anyone can tell me whether I can get an engineer to come around fix this problem- teletext is particularly annoying!
Cheers.

Damn - You got one with a tilt eh ? Annoying isn`t it ?
Yes it can be fixed by an engineer, sort of.
Call your dealer and ask them to get a JVC engineer out. He will remove the casing and manually adjust the ` coil ` which runs around the outside of the tube.
In very basic terms it looked to me like he was manually loosening the tube and basically turning the whole thing until it looked level, then tightening it again !
Only problem is this adjustment, whilst sorting out the slope at the bottom, can affect the top of the picture instead.
I tried the engineer route, then I sent mine back and got another. The second one also has a tilt, but it`s not half as bad and is barely noticeable.
Be warned - DO NOT accept crap from your dealer about " earth`s magnetic field, nothing we can do blablabla "
JVC acknowledge it`s a `fault` with this model.

I bought one of the bigger JVCs, which you can easily adjust for tilt with the remote control. Not boasting - I actually bought the wrong size by mistake & then had a nervous few minutes when it looked like it wouldn`t fit through the front door...
Superb tv - very pleased with it.

RE: JVC AV28R25EKS tilted picture problem
Cheers chaps. I`ll call my dealer today and try and get it sorted. Is panoramic zoom mode the best for watching normal tv? I don`t quite get all this stuff about aspect ratios etc.- my ty always seems to select panoramic as the auto setting- is this right? I noticed in the radio times that you only get widescreen signals if you are a digital viewer/customer. Analogue is not affected. some other guy said his tv is always switching between zoom modes- mine doesn`t do this. maybe it`s because he`s got digital tv?
Any help or advice much appreciated.
Ta-ta for now, as Jimmy says.
RE: JVC AV28R25EKS tilted picture problem
You should set the TV picture to `auto` and leave it there.
Go into the menu and set the "4:3 picture default" setting to panoramic.
Then sit back and enjoy. Proper digital widescreen transmissions will be perfect and non-widescreen transmissions will automatically default to panoramic meaning your screen will be filled all the time.
You will notice some format switching when you change channels, but it`s all automatic and not intrusive.

Cheers Bowf. What a jolly helpful chap you are!
By the way, apropos the SPR100 speakers, my bro-in-law said the speaker cable that came with these speakers is a bit pants, and he`s giving some better stuff- have you invested in some better cable, or are you making do? Must say, sounds great already- my opera dvd`s sound really quite awesome with 5.1!
Regards.
RE: JVC AV28R25EKS tilted picture problem
Careful now !
You`ll upset some folk saying it`s 5.1 !
I`ve made do with the standard cable as it`s nice and easy to route and hide. It`s only rear speakers after all. No huge amounts of bass or treble going into them.Bit debatable as to whether that gun going off behind your head would sound any better with improved cable.
A touch of overkill in my opinion, but there`s no harm in trying it if you can be bothered.
Please bear in mind I know little about impedance/output/resistance.I suppose it`s feasible the TV`s in-built amp might struggle with improved cable ? I don`t know.

Enhanced DPL was what I meant- oops!
Thanks for advice. Have been watching Apocalypse Now DVD- helicopters going past sound superb....
Cheers
RE: JVC AV28R25EKS tilted picture problem
Have got back to my dealer (AJElectronics) about the tilt and he wasn`t that helpful, saying in spite of the fact that I`d paid 470 quid, I`d had a "jolly good deal" and that he`d have to fork out 30 quid for a JVC engineer to come out and tweak the tv!
Surely JVC should have to pay for the tilt to be fixed?
Seems like rather a load of b****ks to me......
Any advice?
RE: JVC AV28R25EKS tilted picture problem
Can`t see why he`d have to pay for a JVC engineer to come out ,unless it`s an import that doesn`t come under UK warrantee regs or something.
Even then I thought warrantees had to be Europewide these days by law.
Just keep at them and state it`s not fit for purpose.
Who wants to watch a TV with a sloping picture ?
RGB direct were the same with me.Took me 4 days to get an engineer out, and the subsequent refund palavour was even worse..
No point in you phoning JVC direct either as the contract is between you and the supplier.
Good luck.
