Techtronics LG3350e

daveo (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 3rd January 2001, 13:55

I have just found that Techtronics are now selling their LG3350e with VCR mode modification. At an extra £20 is it worth me buying this version or buying a un-VCR mode model and hold out for a manual hack or buying an inline macrovision decoder?

Cheers

Dabs are doing it for 189.00

But it may/may not hack

I am going for the AIWA 370 as it will def. hack

I think the dabs machine is only Region 2.

How much does a decent quality inline decoder cost?

I got mine from Dabs on 22/12/00.

I haven`t tried a region 1 disc yet, but trying the remote hack brings up the `CODE?` prompt. I think that means that it works.

Anyway, a superb machine (but the only one I`ve owned).

The dabs one can be made multi-region using the remote hack, full details at:

You may be better of paying the extra for the Techtronics one though. As you will never get an inline Macrovision defeater that will do a better job than a hack at source. Besides, an inline one would probably cost more anyway and need it`s own power supply.

Reviews point to it being a bit crap though - in comparison to the 3350.

I`m sure some people have already posted this somewhere so I don`t want to sound like I`m taking credit for finding it.

The number 314156 (as used in the LG and Aiwa hack) is, as I`m sure you all know, pi to 6 figures (the maths thing - looks like a fancy `n`).

If you replace that number with e to 6 figures (271828) you get another change on the front panel. Surely after techtronics ripped people off before by selling occasional firmware updates as specialist software mods they have probably just worded out what this or a similar `feature` does and how it works to disable macro.

Everyone who doesn`t mind maybe buggering up your player! Try loads of different maths constants on your LGs and Aiwas!

So, does this `271828` code disable the Macrovision? or does it do something completely different?

Also, if I bought a dabs machine is the multiregion change permanent or do you have to enter it everytime?

Finally, by spending £189 rather than £250, would I definately get multiregion player now and possibly a macrovision disabled machine in the future?

What do I do?????????
