In a word, YES.

I am also a disgruntled Phillips 880 owner and am considering switching to the Panasonic. My Dad has the hard disk version you are after and is well pleased with it, albeit it is twice the cost!

I can see the Philips DVD+RW format going the way of the V2000 and DCC....

I have one of these excellent machines and yes it can record to dvd-r from any source as well as the hard disc. I also had a philips and took it back for a panny dvd-ram recorder and have never looked back, the ram system is far superior in every way unless every disc you record mustbe able to play back on some other dvd players. I say some, as the dvd+rw`s I made only played back on two of my six machines...whereas the dvd-r`s recorded on my hs2 play back on all machines.. go with the ram system, as Lord Vader once said... "It is the only way".... ps.. if the HS2 is a little pricey, then consider my other setup which works almost as well: a DMR-E30 and a Tivo Hard Disk Recorder, bringing the total cost to under £500

Jarvis, I have not tried recording vcds from ehe dvd drive to the hard disc, but can see no reason why you cannot as long as the original is not copy protected. I assume you have another dvd player you could hook up to record from and record directly to the dvd drive. I have "Backed Up" loads of things this way as I also have a Tivo which I record to a DVD Ram disc and edit .

Micoman, I am in the process of ordering some blank DVD-R`s to try out on my machines as generally I don`t use them much , I usually use re-writable ram discs, but if you are in a hurry and want to send me a blank, I`ll happily record something on it for you. I use TDK DVD-R`s at the moment (and I only have two!!) but they have played back on all machines I tried (15 different so far)!

Fred7! I have e-mailed you a few times but no reply?

I did buy a "Vivastar" DVD-R today which I hope will be ok. Can you mail me. Thanks
