Only you can decide on this by taking a look at one. I personally have watched a Plasma screen and felt sick after about 10 mins! £3 grand is a lot of wonga to pay for something that someone advises you on.

Also remember, repairs on this type of screen are extremely difficult if not/and very expensive.

Stay with a cathode ray tube until further notice is my advice.

Hi. I have a Samsung PS42, which I bought from Currys for £3grand. This includes desk top stand, speakers, speaker stands and tuner box. I am very pleased with the system.

I don`t know what the previuos guy was on about feeling sick, I have never heard such nonsense. The best bet is to look at the screen which is displayed at most dixons / curry stores. Or you can request information by visiting www.samsungelectronics.co.uk.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
The Richer Sounds price is for monitor only and excludes everything. Dixons might be £800 more but includes desktop stand, speakers, speaker stands and tuner box. If you bought these items separately it would add up to about 3 grand all in.

Buy the way, Dixons and Currys are now quoting at least 8 weeks for delivery as, because of the low price, they have sold stacks of them and Samsung is having trouble keeping up with the demand.

I have just got mine but it was worth the wait.

If you`ve ever played games on your computer and felt sick when watching the image moving fast across your monitor then you may realise what `nonsense` I`m talking about. Similar effect when watching image moving quickly across the plasma screen...I thank you.

Hi, sorry Aslan, I didn`t mean to be rude, but as long as you are sitting the correct distance from the appropriate screen size, be it plasma or CRT, you should eliminate blurred fast moving pictures and will view a crisp picture. The closer you sit to any screen the more pixel imaging and blurring you will notice, which I note most people do when playing games etc. With a 42" screen you want to be at least 3 to 4 metres away when seated.

I am currently thinking of a plasma but have a few q`s :-

1) I have heard earlier screens tend to lose colour etc after about four years, has this now been fixed
2)What is the tuner box for - purely to give tv function on screen, which I can get from sky digibox, or are there other features?
3)Does this screen support SVHS as my Linn Classik Movie system does not support RGB :-(
4) Do you know what extended warranty Dixons were offering
5) Can you get a wall bracket for it.

Thanx

Kevin

Hi,
You should get around 20000 hours before the screen gradually fades. This is about 10 years at 6-8 hours a day.
The tuner box is for tv reception. It also has 3 scart, s-video, dvi, pc, composite inputs. You are truly covered here.
You should have no problem playing SVHS.
Extended discounts are available, subject to a hefty premium. About £700 for 3 years, £1000 for 5 years. One year is standard.
Wall brackets are available for £150.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, that helps a lot and puts to bed my worries on expected life.
Do you know the cost of the tuner box for this - As i don`t need speakers and won`t use the desk stand, I may be better getting the screen from Richar Sounds (if they still have them, once waited four months for a remote control) and buy the wall bracket and tuner box seperate.
Also RS claim to do a three year extended warranty on Plasmas for 250quid, 1000gbp for five years is a joke :-(
Anywhere do extended warranties independantly ?

Kev - about to take the plunge :-?
