Page 1 of Aiwa reliabilty

I am just getting into home cinema and have been looking round all in one systems.
Aiwa ht-dv90 seems to fit the bill for what I want but I have some reservations over long term reliabilty of Aiwas.

Has anybody else had similar experiences or have I just been unlucky?
Any comments on the ht-dv90.

I bought one which just didn`t work out of the box, returned it and got a replacement that had a faulty sub-woofer channel, so went back and got a sony instead.

Considering Aiwa and sony machines share the majority of their components. It makes very little sense to buy a sony over an aiwa. As sony own Aiwa now anyway, I had the ht-dv90 and found it a very good machine.

Agree with Geezer, yes they are owned by Sony. However they are a budget brand and so have to cut corners somehow and that means the build quality ain`t up to much. Sony`s are generally built like bricksh*thouses and Aiwas are the wooden sheds they stand next to.

If you`ve got the money but not the space, go for a Pioneer/Toshiba DVD and the Aego P5 for the decoding and surround. Blows any other `home cinema in a box` away.

Not really true. Aiwa arent a budget brand, they are just percieved that way. The machines from sony Aiwa are pretty much the same. Sony just have a better reputation, Sony themselves killed off Aiwa by going for the same market with their systems, and in the end had to either buy the rest of aiwa or face the embarrasment of one companies they controlled closing.

So I went for the Aiwa anyway.
I got it for £240 and for that price It is great.
Pucture quality is good and sound fantastic.
I am a little disapointed with the CD playback but it is certainly good enough for my limited listening.

Only time will tell if it is reliable or not.....
