Just got back from a month in Oz. B4 I went I put my Samsung 709 in storage. Now I`ve got it back it won`t play DVD`s.

It WILL play music CD`s and my R3 version of Dog Soldiers.

My sister is babysitting the rest of my collection, but having bought some more on hol, it won`t play Spiderman (R3) SW EP2 (R4) and minority report (R2)

any ideas would be much appreciated!!

it seems to be something to do with region coding. apparently my dog soldiers is actually region free. I have hacked the player and set it to a specific region (4). when I try to play a disc with the corresponding region, it ejects the disc and the screen displays the message. `This disc cannot be played. Please check the disc` but it I insert a disc of the wrong region, the message `Please check the region of the disc` comes up. so it`s obviously regognising region coding, but doesn`t seem to play a disc that actually has it!

"This disc cannot be played. Please check the disc"

This message only comes up if (a) the disc is faulty and can`t be read, or (b) the disc is PAL and you`ve got the switch on the back of the player set to NTSC. Check the switch and make sure it`s actually set to PAL before you do anything else - it`s very easy to knock it accidentally when moving the player.

you`re an absolute star. I knew the disc wasn`t faulty as they all played on my PS2. Indeed, the switch had moved across to NTSC.

ta muchly, I`ll get the next round in

Hi Mike, I have the same problem at the moment with the 709 in that the message, i.e. This disc cannot be played, Check the disc is displayed. I`ve tried the hack and tried switching the pal/ntsc switch but nothing works. The discs are all fine because they work on all of our other dvd players, please help!
