Problem with Aiwa 370 after using firmware display hack!!

Jezebabe (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 17th December 2000, 14:47

I used the hack at http://aiwaownersnetwork.tripod.com/_private/pages/firmware_display_hack.htm a week or so ago to view the version info on my Aiwa 370. One annoyance after doing this was that the display was reset to component video instead of S-video.

However, since doing this I have only played region 2 DVDs until yesterday when I tried to play a region 1 DVD and got the "check region code" error. Thinking that the firmware display hack had also "reset" the all region hack, I tried to re-enter the hack (code 0). It appeared to work ok, but would still only play region 2 DVDs. I then tried code 1 (for region 1 only) and found that both region 1 and 2 DVDs played ok again!!?????!! Something strange is going on here. Anyone else get this? Jimbo ?

Is there a magic "reset to how it was when I first took it out of the box" switch anywhere?

Thanks
Jez

dunno jez, mine works both in R1 and R0 modes fine!

And I`ve done the firmware hack umpteen times...sounds very strange!

Daz, the reason your LG has the same quirks is because its the SAME player with a Dolby Decoder added and VCD playback removed.

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
(PS: Jez, did you get a changeover when you were complaining about banding etc.? could be another symtom of a faulty player, but dodgy ground for getting it changed!)

I`ve re-entered the region hack a number of times without a problem too.

Jimbo

I didn`t have any problem with banding, you must be thinking of someone else. I recall someone complaining of this but can`t remember who it was. Like you say I`m probably on dodgy ground for getting the player changed, but I`m quite happy so long as multi-region works (albeit with a different code than normal).

Apart from this I`m still very happy with the Aiwa. In fact Comet must be making a fortune from me as I keep telling mates about it who then go and buy one!

Cheers
Jez
P.S. Looking forward to the macrovision hack Jimbo ;-)
