Playing DivX on DVD Players

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 12th November 2002, 00:34

Are there any DVD Players that I can play DivX films on?

I have shedloads of them and it takes ages for me to keep transfering them onto SVCD, so are there any players around that I can just play the .avi files with?

It looks good. Thanks for your help Clayts. Only problem is the price. :(
Also it looks like an old Betamax recorder too. ;)

Get a chipped xbox--with some free software plays DIVX great, and everything else for that matter

Good point. Forgot about the Xbox being able to do that. Cheaper too, eh? Might as my brother if he wants to sell me his and get it chipped. Although that too looks like a bloody Volvo.

Does anyone here actually have a chipped Xbox then? I`m just enquiring as to whether they play SVCD/VCD and also what overall quality of DivX playback is?

I have one and the do play SVCD and VCD very well along with DIVX, XVID etc. There is a few extra bits of software you need to get that all working though and if you want to play your CDR`s make sure you get the latest model as they have a much better DVD ROM unit, earlier ones, like mine, will only read DVDR. I can burn 3 SVCD`s or 3 or 4 DIVX movies onto 1 DVDR though and it works great

Well the one I`ve been looking into getting that has the following:-
>
Brand New XBOX games console with 1 controller
Latest Evo-X Bios Version 2.5
Plays back-up/copy or original games
Plays any region DVD
Macrovision free recording (DVD to VHS)
Brand new. unused, opened only to modify
Evolution-X installed to allow usage of below applications
DVD V.2 - Use Game Controller Instead of DVD Playback Kit
XBcopy allows you to backup games direct to XBOX hard drive
boXplorer allows you to browse partitions copy/move files etc
XBOX Media Player V.6 for mp3/vcd/divx

What do you think then? It sounds like it has everything on it - but someone else told me DivX playback was poor.
