Tosh 220E Various Multiregion Options

I`m just about to buy a Toshiba 220E multiregion player and because Richer sounds (£135 never in stock on web anyway) aren`t that near to me I am probably going to order from the Web. However, WebElectricals.co.uk (£143) claim their player can play RCE films, DVDplayers.co.uk (£140) and Richer sounds say nothing and a couple of others including Be-Direct.co.uk (£130) say specifically that they cannot play RCE films. I`m not particularly bothered about the RCE aspect but it seems to imply that if the information is correct that there are various varieties of firmware fixes (assuming they are firmware fixes). Does anyone know of the different fixes for multiregion and which one is most reliable as I have read of one person on this site having problems with his Richer Sounds model. As an aside WebElectricals replied to my email regarding stock within 4 hours and offer free guaranteed next day delivery... seems a good option even though slightly more expensive. Has anyone any comments on them good or bad?

My brother has just got the Tosh from Webelectrical - no problems.
As far as I know (someone correct me..), if you ever have a problem with an RCE disc, instead of having region set to `all`, you just need to specify the region explicitly instead. i`e on the menu where you get 0,1,2,3,4...All etc, you select the region. I`ve not had to do this before though..

There are various options for making this machine multi-region. The cheapest is through an engineering disc available to Tosh dealers which costs them nothing but you about £20 (notice the difference between R2 and multi-region for RicherSounds for example). This route has difficulties with RCE discs. Other retailers have different firmware uploads that overcome the problem.

Welcome to rip-off land.

the real answer is that the Toshiba 220 will play RCE regardless of where you get it from but it will not play a new variant of RCE that has appeared on "The New Guy". The sites claiming RCE compatible either dont know about "The New Guy" or they are choosing to ignore it

Thanks for the replies.... I wondered whether to get the Region 2 Amazon one and `multi-region` it myself but I was worried about it affecting the guarantee... Tonight I checked with Amazon and now they are selling the Multi Region version at £120 + shipping. Problem solved. Just ordered with Amazon
