WHARFDALE DTS PROBLEMS

Chris Barham (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 2nd October 2002, 12:38

Can anybody help. I have a whardale 750s dvd player that is hooked up to a Yamaha A5 amp.

The problem is every time i watch a film with a DTS sound track i get slight gaps in the sound every so often. This is random.

Is this a problem with the dvd dts decoder or the Amp.

Chris

There isn`t a dts decoder in the 750s, but it is capable of sending a dts signal along the digital cable : just check that the cable isn`t kinked if it`s an optical cable, or that if you have got the coaxial digital cable that it`s connected the right way round (there are usually arrows on these cables, signifying FROM DVD player TO amp).

Additionally, ensure that you have set the 750s to output a 96K dts signal rather than 48K : the A5 can handle this without any problems.

It`s certainly something in your set-up, not the amplifier - my A5 has no problems with dts at all.

I get this problem on Region 1 discs only. Region 2 plays back DTS no problem.

I had the same problem with my 750s. After doing a bi of searching on the net, I found out that it`s a problem with the chipset in the player. It`s not fixable and drove me mad to the extent that I sold the player and have just purchased a Tosh.
