I`ve read all of the threads relating to the Scan DVD player and can simpathise. I probably would not have brought my player if I had been aware of some of the problems. I recieved my player about two weeks ago and from what I can gather, I think it is the latest varient. I have to say that for the price, its a great machine - Nice crisp picture, good sound quality ( even if it is a little quiet at times).
Here it comes....
I do however have a few problems - As well as the MP3 playback being stubborn at times, the player refuses to display the menus or extras on the `Apocalypse Now` disc. Apparently this can happen with a number of discs. I have informed scan and they assure me that there will be a firmware upgrate `just after Christmas`. If so, how does this work? Do I return my player and get a new one?? Or do they reflash my existing player? Here`s hoping they stand by their work and make a good player even better..

The disc in question is the region two version of Apocalypse Now. I swopped the disc and it still doesn`t work. I recieved my player at the end of November so I`m not sure if I need a firmware upgrade or not...
As an asside - In light of my problems with Apocalypse Now, could you confirm whether the `Thing special addition` region 2 disc can be played before I go out and buy it, apparently this disc has been troublesome too...
