Video Recorder ...Any Recommendations??

Shoes (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 8th September 2002, 21:16

I`m after a cheap video recorder preferably Nicam for about £130.
Has anyone got any recommendations?
I was going to buy Home Entertainment as I`ve been told that there is a "mega test" on VCR`s in the October issue.

Cheers

You can`t go far wrong if you stick to "name" brands, you can pick up a Panasonic for about that price. I would avoid the likes of Alba or Matsui though.

I've never bought from their web site, but Richer Sounds web site are selling a Panasonic NVFJ630 VCR Recorder for £120

This is one of those VCRS with a new kind on long play, which will record 12 hours on a 4-hour tape.
Did a google search cos I'm looking for a new VCR myself- it came back with loads of other retailers selling the same machine for about the same money

Argos are selling it for £140- here's the specs they list
· 4 heads.
· VideoPlus+.
· 16 event/1 month timer.
· Programme delivery control.
· On-screen display.
· 1-touch record.
· External link for easy timer recording of digital broadcasts.
· NTSC playback (allows playback of US videotapes - suitable TV required).
· High speed jet search.
· Auto tuning.
· Child lock.
· Security ID.
· High speed forward/rewind.
· 2 x SCART sockets.
· Rear AV socket.
· Auto tape length recognition.
· Size (H)8.7, (W)43, (D)28.2cm.

I'm not recommending this VCR or Richer Sounds web site, as I don't know much about either one, but it gives you somewhere to start looking

Hi Pat

I had wondered about the Panasonic vcr, but I noticed on the Richer Sounds site that they have sold out, I suppose I`ll have to try the actual shop. Also I thought about the Sharp VC-MH835HM for the same price from http://www.be-direct.co.uk

Hi

Checkout the Daewoo nicam it will play american tapes and middle east mesecam but not secam on a pal tv.
Its widescreen compatable with onscreen and 1 model without videoplus but has pdc and commercial skip [ basic] and 1 with all .
I got the cheaper model at www.allders.com for £89.99 the delivery i think was free but they may charge now [ had about 1 year ].
It has 6 heads 2 speeds [ normal LP AND SP ] lots of slow or fst skips speeds and perfect still in both.[ with colour ]
The remote is small but easy to work and well layed out.The machine is silver.

bye

I`d go for either Panasonic or JVC. They consistently make machines with the best picture and sound quality. I still use a Panasonic Nicam/Hifi VCR that`s now 10 years old and still looking and sounding superb. Reliability is beyond question...

Yea, my JVC has been shifted from pillar to post and is about 7 years old and is still top notch.

This may be an irrelevant and silly question, but if it is auto-power off after three hours, does that mean people like me who watch TV through their videos (in order to get surround sound) will keep having to turn it back on every three hours? (Not that there is ever three hours of telly on in a row that is worth watching.)

Also it says it does auto 16:9 recording and playback, anyone know how video`s do this and what it means?

Cheers

Nick
