Toshiba SD220 Playing SVCD - Richer Sounds

Hi,

I am planning to buy the Tosh SD220 from Richer Sounds but they tell me that it cannot play SVCD. Are they referring to the lip-synch issues or is it a particular issue with their multi region mod? Does anybody have experience with this?

Also, is the ability to play SVCD a big issue (I am new to DVD)?

Cheers.

I have had no probs so far on own burned SVCDs yes it does have a lip sync prob but that is easy to cure by pressing the angle button twice and it all syncs up. Excellent machine and good price.

I bought the same player from Richer Sounds today. I`ve played VCD`s and SVCD`s on CD-R and CD-RW with no real probs. I have noticed that they tend to pause momentarily every minute or so - a bit like a layer change pause - but that might be down to me as I`m new to this encoding lark.

David - SVCDs are not DVDs, but CDs with movies on. If you fancy transferring your home movies on to CD, then this is the format they would end up on. Apart from that, it`s usually "films of dubious origin" that appear on VCD/SVCD.

Thanks for the input.

Now to answer my own question (having bought the player) this plays: R1 DVD, MP3, VCD, S-VCD, DVD-R.

Cheers,

David.
