Help Needed! Unable to play DVDs with Macrovision!

The Great Gonzo (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 22nd July 2002, 22:03

Hi, I have had a DVD player for around three years now, but have only just gotten around to fitting a DVD Rom drive to my PC.

I have fitted the drive with no problems but it is only playing some of my DVDs. (This is nothing to do with Region coding as I am only using Region 2 DVDs on my PC).

I have noticed that the DVDs that my computer refuses to play all have Macrovision software protection on. My computer offer the following error message: "The TV Out port of your display card is not working properly". Pressing the `Detailed` button also adds the following: "This copy protected disc cannot be played when the TV Out port is being utilized".

The software I am using is PowerDVD, and the drive is an LG GCC-4120B.

The only things that are plugged into the back of my computer are a mouse, keyboard, speakers, printer (in printer port), monitor and scanner (in USB port).

Greatful for any help. I presume that the software thinks I am trying to copy the disc, and if I can turn off this port, then everything will work okay. I have no idea how to do this however.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help with this annoying problem.

Dave

That problem tends to happen with the drivers that come with windows because they are cut down versions (designed to get windows up and running and so not very good performance)

Downloading the latest graphics card drivers should solve the problem.
