Can the Sony DAVS300 play CD-R`s/VCD`s??

Ive heard on another forum that the DAVS300 cant play cdr`s at all, and only a few makes of cdrw.
Can someone confirm this for me as to any makes of CDR/CDRW that work on this machine?
Also if it plays VCD`s

Only managed to get it to play top quality CD/R`s and a no to the VCD`s.
