Mate`s 28 inch version is fine.
I assume you mean it`s dark on DVD platback ?
If so can you not change the picture on the DVD player ?
Most players seem to have the facility of adjusting contrast/brightness levels.
Even SKY`s RGB output has 3 levels of brightness/contrast.
Failing this try a better scart cable.
Failing this try throwing a fit and putting it back to the shop for another make...
My last Mitsubishi TV had a truly awful RGB picture. Really dull and dark no matter what I did. My new-ish Hitachi has a great RGB picture.

Thanks for the reply.

The RGB output is very dark, but detailed with a predominately RED tinge. This happens with both Sky and DVD, i`ve tried using another cable and its the same story.

Note its absultely perfect with just composite.

One thing that might be going against me is that my SKY and DVD is in housed in a cupboard with the Electrical fusebox, is this the problem?

So more info..Can anyone help..

I`m using a JVC scart (JVC J126) bought from Currys - don`t know if its any good. It is a flat Ribbon type, like a ATA computer cable, with GOLD blocks.

RGB socket is connected..as such..

Cyberhome AD512DVD (JVC J126 scart)--> Grundig DigiBox --> (ASDA gold scart) --> TV..RGB selected on both DVD and SKY, and scart control selected on the Digibox.

The picture from RGB is very dark, although the colours are very rich, particular Reds and Blues. An increase in the brightness level from the TV (past 60) results in a ghosting of the image, causing blacks to fade to gray. This is only across the middle portion of the screen.

The picture from SVHS is grainy but much brighter than RGB. I think it is worse than

However the PAL image is ok. Maybee the colours are a bit on the soft side and not quite as detailed as RGB.

This happens with both my Cyberhome AD512 DVD and Grunding Sky Digi box. OK with PAL, not watchable with RGB..

Are the white`s actually white or is there a slight purple hue? From what you are saying the green signal in RGB is low or faulty and since there is most luma or brightness in the green portion of the signal the picture would look dark.

You have of course tried the DVD into the TV on it`s own with the correct settings for RGB etc?

Steve..

Hi Steve,

Tx for the suggestion..

I can get into the Service Menu and so could adjust the Green strength, relative to Red and Blue.

Whites do seem a bit purpleish, especially on the DVD menu and SKY setup menu..

Yes, i have tried going direct into the TV, bypassing the Digibox. Made no difference, its definately the TV at issue here..

The settings would probably work in all modes not specific to RGB so it`s time to phone the shop where you got the TV.

Steve..
