LG 5095 - Good Player ??? - Advice Needed.

Hello,

I`m going to buy my 1st DVD player and I quite like the LG 5095 for reasons of a (CD based) multi-region hack, VCD hack, mp3 player and 5.1 decoder as well as being CD-R/RW compatible. Also, it`s a better known brand and potentially more reliable than the unknown chinese makes.

Any comments as to whether this player is any good.

Can owners please confirm if this player has a display on the unit and a "cool blue illunination" around the buttons. It is difficult to tell as the unit is stated as having a mirror type finish in the front of the unit.

I intend to get the unit from "unbeatable.co.uk"

Many thanks
Sultan.

It`s reviewed in the new edition of Home Entertainment. Out of five players reviewed between £150-£250, it came bottom with three stars.

The blue symbols actually appear above the buttons, as opposed to around them. There is a mirrored finish too.

Are you kidding, LG are harly the bee`s knees. I`m sure some of there stuff is Ok but the only thing I had went wrong & a TV a friend had also did. There are many here who would recommend the Dansai, & me The MICO. Both I`m sure would be better than the LG.

LG stuff is made in Korea (LG stands for Lucky Goldstar, and we all know people who have Goldstar products, right...).

Funnily enough the remote looks not dissimilar to the old Philips TV/digibox remotes from two years back : maybe they`re made in Holland (yeah, right...)

The no name DVDs are often the base units for the bigger names : the Sharp DV740H, for example, is based on a real budget end Taiwan player called the Sampo DV939 : the components are identical, it`s just the casing that has been designed by Sharp in Japan ! There are many similar instances : don`t be put off by "cheap Far Eastern products" : quite often they are precedent setting (eg Sampo`s Compact Flash card reading player available in the US since July 2001 which also allow users to watch slideshows of photographs and even attach hard drives for a mega-mega MP3/.mpg/.jpg jukebox !): a year before Sony supposedly "invented" similar compatibility !)

The 5095 does indeed have on-board decoding
