Stuart what Mickey is trying to say is Hitachi have recieved a bad batch of mpeg chips in ALOT of there player`s, so many infact that Hitachi are not going to withdraw them as the picture is poor not unwatchable which is very nice of them.

Goto homecinema and enter the news desk, from here read the hardware news. scroll down it for old news on the 505.

HITACHI ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

I think I have been a recipient of 2 decidedly non-rocking Hitachi 505`s. Both units I had the misfortune to obtain were a pile of the proverbial donkey dung. Picture quality was apalling, pixelation and artifacts were so bad it was unwatchable. The replacement unit had what can only be described as a temperamental loading tray. When changing layers the tray would decide to eject the disk, this was amazingly annoying so back it went. After receiving much grief from my nearest and dearest for buying such pretty heap of junk, I was persuaded to save a bit of wedge and buy what my better half thought was quite a "sexy" looking LG3350. Reluctantly I let her judgment ride and I am now a very proud owner of the LG beast. It has so far been everything that the Hitachi was not, picture quality superb, no interesting or unexpected "characteristics". IMOH a far better machine in that the quality of build is better and more consistant.

LG3350 breaks a rat in the face of Hitachi 505

It does show an alarming variation in their quality control, whilst I am sure that when you get a gooddun` it`s "la testic du chien", but the same claim could be laid at the door of the infamous Mico and Yelo, it isn`t good enough if only or two in the batch work properly. At £300 build should be better. After all for the same money(ish) I nearly went for the Sony 336.

Viva LG!!!! The Acolyte has seen the Light!

Ouch! Comparing Hitachi`s QA to that of Mico and Yelo must wound deeper than any blade Ironduke.

DAMN SCOUNDRAL!

actually Acolyte (hahahah got yer ass kicked by T&A:P)

I inform the public of all hitachi news good and bad on my site and it does appear Hitachi have had a batch of toaster`s recently.

The good news is so far the 705 has passed with flying colour`s so far with a better spec then the Sony 535 and is cheaper, DVD Review gave it 8/10.

when you notice the price difference between the 505 & the 705 less then 50 quid(some places are selling the 705 cheaper) it seem`s abit daft going for the 505 now.

DVD review had 2 505`s giving them very poor review`s of 4/10, the only thing it knocked the 705 on was features : It seems DVD Review prefer funny little still snapshots to CDR / CDRW / MP3 / Full signal conversioon.

Let`s just hope that Hitachi CPU inside your LG doesnt show the same reliability as your 505:P

LOL
