Philips 762 `No Disc" when DVD is in !!!

sammy7 (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 23rd June 2002, 12:55

HI,

I just recently rented a DVD and put it into my Philips DVD player. Howevre, after about 30 secs, I got a messag saying "No Disc" on both th TV screen and the players screen.

tryed cleaning the DVD and playing it again ...but same result.

Then I decided to make sure the prob was from the Disc not the player, but I was shocked when I put in some of my own DVD`;s which I know for a fact that they work, but ended up with the same message.

Funnily enough, when an audio MP3 disc is placed in, It reads it and plays it, but the sound has a LOT os static in it, and the player sorat skips evry 15-18 sec`s.

any ideas what cud be the problem?

Cheers

Duff loader ?

This is a common fault on Sampo decks, but usually boils down to something as simple as the positioning of the disc on the loader. However, it can also be something like some crud (probably from your rented disc) floating around in your loader. May be worth investing in a DVD lens cleaner.

Don`t know if the Philips 762 has seperate lenses for audio cds and DVDs do you? The 2 lenses will be closely packed together on the pick up assy. If you managed to get crud from the rented DVD onto the dvd optics there is a fair chance it has contaminated the audio cd optics too.
Disc type cleaners are sometimes more likely to smear the crud even more onto the lens.
If it is under warranty take it back for a tech to clean.
If you want to have a go yourself then make sure you have a propriety lens cleaning fluid.
Don`t use ordinary alcohol-you`ll damage the lens.
Use cotton buds that are not adhered to the sticks by solvent type glue as this will also feck the lens coating.
Wipe in a spiral pattern ,but don`t use too much force or you`ll damage the focus coils.
Also check that the sled rails that the optics travel on are not covered in gunk.
Have fun!

Tnx for the help guys. I ll try doing it myself, but if it turns out to be a surgical operation type-a-thing, then I guess Ill have to seek the pros.
