New Wharfdale 750 Won`t Hack??

SidcupJim (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 20th November 2000, 18:13

I bought a Whardale 750 (not 750s) from Tesco today (20/11/200) and I can`t seem to change the region code. Because of this I`ve spent a fair while looking at various different hacks including multi region and just region 1, and none of them work. Does any one know if it can play ERC DVDs. If it is of any use it has a Wharfdale CS 328C firmware chip in it.

Thanks for any responses, otherwises it looks like it will be going back to tesco.

It will hack. Make sure your using this one:

And note that:

"When open, the drive tray can obscure the IR sensor, be careful to position your remote in direct line of sight with the sensor whilst attempting this hack"

Cheers, Robert.
Do you know if any messages are supposed to appear on screen and if it will play ERC DVD`s (like the patriot) as I dont`t have any at the moment, and as it looks as though things are going that way I` dont want to be caught out.

If u bought the dvd player from Tesco then it IS THE "S" Series dude.

If u doubt my knowledge then go and visit the Tesco website at www.tesco.co.uk It should be in the dvd/videos section on the left.

it will hack!!! I had the same problem, but as the only dvd i had was the patriot, with the encripting it would not work. I have since bought other region 1 dvds that are not encripted and they play as does the patriot now!!!

I`ve had a bizarre prob with my Wharfdale. after many months of good multiregion playing, I bought Gladiator and the bonus DVD with the extra features locks up the player. I even bought a second copy to check and they both do this:
the DVD starts normally, the universal(spinning world logo) plays through then the machine attempts to access the 2nd chapter and locks up completely and must be restarted.
the dvds both work on my pc player. anyone else had this prob?

Hi all ,I too had this prob but i got there i the end

1st though Gladiator works fine on my Wharfedale player same thing happend with my m8`s copy on his Samsung 511 player. He found out there was finger prints on the inside edge of the disc.He wiped it clean no problems with it now.

2nd here the list of hacks for the Wharfedale player.
My player uses this hack
open drive tray and press these buttons..

1 Press `Step`
2 Press `Prev`
3 Press `Next`

This should set the player to multi-region.

And yes The Patriot works fine on it what a good film that was tooooo.

4: player should now be region free.

This is now confirmed as working.

Additional:

Macrovision code (I assume you enter this via the password control option)

Let me know if this works and/or the correct sequence to enter it.

There have been a number of reports that the Wharfedale DVD750s region hack may not work on all DVD750s players.

Try This ..

2 Press `Prev`
3 Press `Next`

2 Press `Prev`
3 Press `Next`

In case the wording is different on your handset, STEP is also sometimes called PAUSE, try that it might work :-)

There is now an updated 750 as well as the 750s.

The updated 750 has a new DTS logo on the front of the player
The 750s player and box has 750(S) on it.

The updated 750 uses the same hack as the old one.

I hope this lot help let me know how you got on with these hacks
cheers

THIS PROBLEM WAS HIGHLIGHTED ON THE BBC TV PROGRAM `WATCHDOG` PRESENTED BY ANNE ROBINSON IN EARLY JANUARY 2001. THE RESULT OF HER INTERROGATION OF A SPOKESMAN FOR THE FILM/TV DISTRIBUTORS ORGANISATION WAS AN ADMISSION THAT THE CODING ON THE MAIN DISK WAS DIFFERENT TO THAT ON THE EXTRA FEATURES DISK. THIS DIFFERENCE IN THE CODING, PRESENTED AS THE MANUFACTURERS RIGHT TO UPGRADE AND IMPROVE THEIR PRODUCTS, PREVENTS THE `GOODIES` DISK FROM WORKING ON (SPECIFICALLY) WHARFDALE DVD PLAYERS PLUS SOME OTHER MAKES. SO BASICALLY THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE PRODUCERS MESSING ABOUT WITH THE CODING STANDARDS. THE DISTRIBUTERS REP. DID SAY THAT A NORMAL CODED DVD HAS BEEN PRODUCED AND WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ANYONE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. INCIDENTLY, HE ALSO ADMITTED THAT NOT ALL DVD`S WILL WORK ON EVERY PLAYER - SOME WILL HAVE THE PROBLEM OUTLINED ABOVE. SO - COMPLAIN LIKE HELL!!!!!
