Problems playing Region 1 DVDs after a remote hack
I recently bought a DVD player (ZENIX) that came with remote hack instructions to make it region free. I carried out the hack, but on playing my first Region 1 DVD from the US, I found that it does not run as smoothly as it should. Difficult to describe, but the picture seems to constantly jump very slightly. Region 2 discs play normally, so it doesn`t seem to be a faulty player. I`ve tried switching it to Region 1 only, but it doesn`t help. Has anyone else had this problem with Region 1 discs? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Problems playing Region 1 DVDs after a remote hack
Ive had exactly the same problem with the Grundig HTDV 620. I even took it back to the shop and got a replacement, but its exactly the same. I would describe it as a slight strobing effect. Ive tried everything but to no avail.
If anyone could help I would be grateful before I take it back and get a refund

Sounds like you`ve got the player outputing in PAL and the player isn`t doing that good a job of converting it from NTSC (usually noticable on horizontal pan shots). As they are at different frame rates the player will have to drop the odd frame to get from 60fps to 50fps for Pal.
Solution is usually to get the player to output in NTSC (or Auto) if available from the players menus/switches etc. On the Samsung 709 it used to be called QuasiPall. Its then usually asked `but it now only appears in black and white` where the solution is to get a fully wired scart and get the picture ouput in RGB (and hope your TV can handle 60Hz). You won`t be able to video tape them then though - unless you have a multistandard VCR.

Thanks very much for the help Chris. I`ve found how to change the DVD player setting to NTSC, and it`s done the trick - it plays properly now. Will have to switch manually each time I watch a Region 1 disc as there`s no `auto` setting, but that`s no problem. Thanks again.

Hi
I bought a zenix z-315L-s which I was told I could hack. No hack instructions came with it to make it region free. I would be grateful if you can give me the remote hack instructions which came with your machine as I am unable to find anything aout this machine on internet.
