Region 1 hack for Phillips DVD750 required

ldiablo (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 4th November 2000, 18:09

A friend of mine recently bought aPhilllipsDVD750 believing it to be multi-regional. Unfortunately it`s not and we were wondering if anyone knows of a hack for this particular model so he can play all the discs he bought in the USA. I also have a dvd on my Packard Bell PC which apparently will lock if I change the region 4 more times. Is there anyway to get around this?

I can confirm that the hack using a Palm Pilot to generate the RC6 code (+222 222...) works 100% with the Philips 750 firmware 7.03

The best hack available... no strange behaviours, countries still on list under child lock menu, audio working OK . It`s important to notice that the player won`t turn itself off and on after injecting the code. The display shows "no disc"

No lock at 25 changes... Every time you inject a code on the player the internal counter increases until 25, then the player locks itself. This hack turns the player region free, you don`t need to change between regions...

Procedure as follow:

The code works (should work) with all known firmwares and types. The bad news is that you need a special remote to use it. First you have to issue a special IR command RC6, codeset 4, key 235 (decimal). Then the rest of the code should be entered normally. So the code is

RC6 code 222 222 005 255 PLAY

The RC6,4,235 code is can be sent using One4All (URC7560) universal remote. To do so, the remote should be set up to control the DVD (setup code 0539). Then press the DVD
button, press the Magic button, press 085. After the 085 the familiar dashes on the front panel display should appear. So the rest is simple, 222 222 005 255 and PLAY.

Do not have a special remote? A Palm owner? Using the famous OmniRemote software from Pacific Neo-Tek it is possible to use the code.
OmniRemote is the application changing the Palm into programmable remote control. Using the correct pdb file, which can be downloaded from several sites, it is possible to use the RC6 code.

Yeah there is a way to get round your PB locking to one region.
(by the way, your right..the region counter is set to 5 at manufacture)

Get a program called DVD genie (available on line, links elsewhere in this forum) or gimme your email address and I`ll send ya the one I`ve got.

It`s a small file, but resets the region counter to 5 for every DVD played. :)
