New Samsung SV-DVD1E Firmware Unhackable?

rjashford (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 22nd November 2001, 08:56

I`m having problems with a new Samsung SV-DVD1E
- Anyone any ideas please?

Just to make sure that I`m not doing something dumb,
here`s what I tried (following the hack listed on the site):

1. Turned-off Power (At Socket)
2. Turned-on Power & Turned on Player (No DVD, DVD Selected)
3. Pressed and held FF & Pause buttons on player
[Select Language] appeared on Screen
4. Pressed 1 on Remote
[DVD Splash Screen] appeared on Screen
5. Pressed SETUP on Remote
[DVD Menu] appeared on Screen
6. Pressed REPEAT A-B on Remote (no other Repeat button on remote)
7. Pressed 3 8 7 6 7 on Remote
[DVD Menu Selections Processed (3-Language, 8-Other...)]
[Current Region Setting Does Not Appear]
8. Pressed 9 button for Region Free
9. Pressed Open/Close button on DVD
[DVD Tray Opens]
10. Pressed Standby on Remote to Turn-off player
[DVD Tray Closes]
11. Pressed Standby on Remote to Power-on player
12. Player refuses any of three Region-1 DVD disks I have:
Disney Snow White, Little Women or Rugrats Movie
[Player reads disk]
[Check Region Code] appears on Screen

I also tried omitting the "Setup" button at step 5 then:

6. Pressed REPEAT A-B on Remote (no other Repeat button on remote)
7. Pressed 3 8 7 6 7 on Remote
[Top Corner DVD Splash Screen displays 38, then 76, then 07]
[Current Region Setting Does Not Appear]
8. Pressed 9 button for Region Free - Still Doesn`t Work

I also tried leaving a delay between typing the code at step 7 as:

7. Pressed 3 paused, 8 paused, 7 paused, 6 paused, 7 paused
[Top Corner DVD Splash Screen displays 03, then 08, 07, 06, 07]
[Current Region Setting Does Not Appear]
8. Pressed 9 button for Region Free - Still Doesn`t Work

All of these were tried after a complete power-off

I am concerned since the model number on the back says SV-DVD1EA
(Does the "A" mean revision A maybe?)
I only received it yesterday from a new Samsung batch.

What do you think?
A. Am I doing something wrong?
B. Have Samsung updated the firmware to prevent the Region Hack?!
C. None-of-the-above

Please Help :`(...

Im not familiar with the remote hack procedure but chances are you are doing it right and the region hack has been removed from later firmware as is the case with M105 , M205 , M405 etc

A quick way to find out is the dvd1e is hackable.

Put in a region 1 dvd and wait till it tells you it wont play,
open the tray, and leave the dvd disk inside
with the tray open press repeat (bottom right hand button with A-B on it)
enter 387671 try to enter the numbers before the disk tray closes.
the disk should play if it does the region hack is still there.

when you switch back into standby it will revert back to zone 2
