Are there any hacks to convert the Whalfedale M5 into a macro disabled machine?
Has anyone got the code and instructions to do this.

There are remote hacks to make the Wharfedale M5 region free, but at the moment nobody has yet found a hack to disable the macrovision.

I can assure you that all firmware released by Sampo (who make the M5 for Wharfedale) since February 2001 has most definitely had the macrovision hack routine removed due to intense scrutiny by the MPAA, DVD Forum and Macrovision themseles.

There are alternative ways to defeat Macrovision on an M5, and relatively cheap (£30) too -

I managed to find a Whalfedale M5 on www.futuretronic-uk.com for under £200 with multiregion and macro-disabled. havve a look on this site and get back to me with your comments.

Futuretronic are a good retailer but their M5s are GRADED stock (it does state that on the site). They have VCR-friendlied them, but it would be cheaper at the moment to buy one from Tescos for £150 plus a Sonel Macmaster for £30. Plus you can use the Macmaster for ahem "other things" too.

Try http://www.ringos.co.uk - they sell the same device and take Visa, Switch etc - I think you may have to ring up, but they`re well friendly and very good to do business with !

The Sonel website is http://www.sonel.com but it does entail sending a cheque off - they generally send them to you within 2/3 working days, I`m told.

I posted a cheque 19/9/01 to Sonel ..... (In order to get the product to evaluate as they didnt want to send a sample) the cheque cleared out of my account 26/9/01 and I will post back here when the product arrives.

All I can say is the product must be very good to sell with this standard of service.
