Macravision! Wot`s that all about?!

ziggyslaphead (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 7th June 2001, 14:00

Not to put myself across as a DVD illiterate, being one of the first of many among my friends to possess a player, but can someone explain to me what is meant by macrovision. The reason i ask is that i want to hack my samsung 709 using the advice on this website but want to make sure that i know exactly what i am doing as i go! Thanx!

All macrovision is is a copy protection system that doesn`t allow you to copy copyrighted materials. If you`ve ever tried to record a payperview event from skydigital-you`ll notice that the recordng is rubbish-that`s Macrovision taking effect. How it works is by sending a extra signal which is invisible during playback-but when you try to record something that is protected by macrovision on to VHS- the recording is not watchable. The extra signal confuses the AGC (automatic gain control) in your VCR-resulting in the poor picture quality. Check out www.sonel.com for more info. or the Macrovision site.
Hope that`s helped.
Have a good one.

And if you set your 709 to any-region mode, Macrovision is disabled too!

Do most DVD`s have macrovision, and can you disable it on the Bush 2009?

Most, if not All copyrighted material has Macro. If your player doesn`t have a remote hack. Try www.sonel.com
