I found this hack on a japanese page... haven`t tried it...
A friend says he could play both region 1 and 2 discs straight from the box on his ads-200.. marked as region 2, might want to try it. I`m betting the guts are teh same as the ADN-100S which is sold as a region free unit (at close to twice the price)

I just bought an ADS-200s yesterday so I don`t know yet.

I`m looking for an English language manual, have you got one? Can you scan and send?

This hack is translated using software and tidied up by me seems like there might be a step missing between 3 and 4? Try it if you like, at your own risk.

AVOX ADS? 200S
Region free hack
Procedure
1.tray open
2.The initializing (set up?) button is pushed
3.Enter 1369 in order
4.then enter 3497340
(last 0 is for region free)
5.Close tray

If you read Japanese I can send you the original by e-mail

Best regards,
Bill O`Connor.

I guess I saw what you saw in Japanese...

1.Open tray
2.Push setting button (initial setup?)
3.Enter 1369 in order to check the sub-version of player
SUB-VER 00.00.00.04 ... unavailable
SUB-VER 00.00.00.06 ... available
4.Enter 3497340 (last digit means the region)
5.Close tray
6.Repeat 2&3 again
7.Check the region code was changed

I cannot find the information for the player having -04 sub version. I hope you guys have -06 units.

Unfortunately I have the sub-version ...04 player. If anyone comes up with a hack for this one please let me know.

Seems to play region 2 pal or ntsc disks into an ntsc TV which is OK for me living in Japan and wanting to play region 2 pal DVD`s of childrens stuff from the UK (for my children!).
Not bad for 20 quid.

Still looking for an English language manual but I guess there isn`t one.

Cheers
BB

Not sure if you`re still looking for info, but I was doing a similar search and found a Japanese posting on the Avox 200S. Here`s the Babelfish translation, a bit weird but....

"Also my was 04. You know you think, but because of sense you write. If even with DVD of the region difference, inserting DVD, while the letter of LOADING has appeared, the region of that DVD (1 when 1) the repeated hitting stripe it comes, playback is possible. Remote control becomes unable to use, but just playback is possible. When it is the movie and the like, rather than not being seen, it is better. As in addition, for capturing 04, also the cord/code of APEX generally being to try, it does, but it was useless. Something 3497340 ago or after you think that it inputs, but here, probably is showdown! HACK it will do! !"

Here`s the original website URL (Japanese)
http://bbs0.otd.co.jp/12952/bbs_plain?base=3836&range=1
It sounds like inserting a different region disc and "hitting" something "repeatedly" during the "LOADING" display, the movie will begin playing, but the remote becomes useless.

I`ve found the best thing is using my PC to play DVDs. I downloaded a firmware patch for my model internal DVD drive. Now it can play all regions (a prompt to change regions appears whenever I insert a different region disc, but now I can make an unlimited number of changes.) And thanks to lovely computer geeks and hackers, it`s free!
Here`s a link that explains firmware patching and at the bottom of this page there`s a link to a listing of DVD players by manufacturer, I think. So you may have to check your hardware settings/profiles to find the name and model of your PC`s DVD player.

Hope that helps someone!
