Would anybody out there happen to know if the above player has a multi-region hack to open it up. If so would be very much appreciated.

Yes, there is a multi-region hack - actually the hack is the same for the "67" model.
With power on Press setup Press ¦<< Press ¦>> Press ¦<< Press ¦>>
A number 2 will appear in the top right screen
Use the Left-arrow or Right-arrow to change the number to 255 (multi-regional).
If you press Down-arrow 1 time, you will also see "3000" and if pressed again, "5000". Use the Left / right arrows to change these to "3001" and "5001". This removes Parental Control and allows playing of SVCD`s.

Would this hack be any good to allow me to play DVD+R or DVD-R on GDVD83WLCD ?
