TBH I would do what others have recommended and that is to buy a macrovision removal box or scart lead. Both apparently remove the macrovision without the danger of phannying up the firmware by updating your existing firmware with some third party firmware.

Try a look on http://220.130.29.146/ikonboard.cgi?s=4fda8e57d083faf6c3901c435dbd8d7a;act=SF;f=2 and you might find a bit more information.

Hi there

You don`t need to buy a scart lead to disable the macrovision on this recorder and you don`t have to download the firmware for it.

You can do this simply by doing the following:

1. Go on a channel where you can record and press record.
2. Press the pause button whilst your on that channel
3. Go to the protected channel and press pause.

This tricks the recorder into thinking its checked for macrovision.

Trust me it works I managed to record a box office movie without any problems and it plays back normally on any dvd player.

Hope this has saved you some money.

Merry Christmas.
Jackie

Sorry to dissagree with you Jackie but, while what you are saying is true about pressing pause before recording, and thaugh you can record protected VCRs in this fashion, the recording quality is however so poor that it is not worth recording.
Anyone knows how to kill this macrovision crap so I can record my VCR collection?
It is rediculous of these companies to think that because we baught a DVD player that we will go out and buy the same movies we already baught all over again!!!

Merry Xmas and happy new year

Andy

have you tried connecting your video via scart to the recorders in scart load your video then turn off the video recorder, using the guider select scart choose the length of recording time then press enter .press go (and pause after 3 or 4 seconds),then turn your video back on play your video, when at the point you want to record unpause the liteon to begin recording.if you have done it correctly you should have bypassed macrovision and the recording should come out better than the video if at any time during the recording you stop macrovision will kick back in.

:D That`s just what i do. For some reason, the picture when tranfered onto dvd looks better. That must be psychosymatic, as the original medium cannot go better than it already was........... but, HEYYY, who`s complaining !!

this works from dvd & some computer software, too.

boden01,

Many thanks for the hack details, worked great on my machine. Macro disabled and the 3hr record. For those who don`t know you will have to rescan the tv tuner and setup you system.

Does anyone know if this will defeat sky box office movies?

Cheers all. :)
