Samsung DVD-V5000 problems after playing VCD 2.0 - please help!

JeskaJ (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 29th August 2004, 07:39

My dvd player was set to region 4 and I recently applied the hack from this website (http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/samsung5000.asp) to make it region free, so I could play a region 2 dvd.

The hack worked perfectly (thanks), but then I played a VCD 2.0 and now I can`t play any DVDs (at least I can`t play region 4, I don`t have any dvds from other regions to test it with anymore).

The only thing I have been able to find about this was on the following page:

http://www.jacobsen.no/anders/blog/archives/2002/07/30/breaking_the_dmca_by_hacking_dvd_players.html

where I found this post:

I have the SAMSUNG DVD/VHS Combo SV DVD 1E
DVD V5000. As I live in Egypt, it is a region 2 player. My family used to send me region 1 movies from Canada and they used to work fine. Then I played a locally recorded VCD 2.0 and my system no longer plays my DVD`s. Is there any way to hack it? I`ve looked at the list and never seem to see my model of DVD player. Please help me out. THanks

I have emailed Safa and am eagerly waiting a reply, but if anyone else can help me on this I`d really appreciate it.

Thanks heaps.

1. Make sure that there is no disc in the tray and switch on the player.
2. Cold start the player, by holding down the FF and PAUSE buttons on the player. (try Stop and Pause if this doesn`t work)
3. You should see a set of language options. Release the FF and PAUSE buttons.
4. Select your language.
5. Press REPEAT then the following codes for the required region the player is already set to (region you bought the player in):
Region 1 - 2, 9, 3, 3, 4
Region 2 - 3, 8, 7, 6, 7
Region 3 - 5, 6, 7, 3, 2
Region 4 - 7, 6, 8, 8, 4
Region 5 - 5, 3, 8, 1, 4
Region 6 - 2, 4, 4, 6, 2

6. A code will appear, indicating the region setting of your player.
7. Press 9 for region-free, or 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, etc.
8. Press OPEN on the Player to open the disc tray.
9. Press STANDBY on the remote control to close the tray. Next time the player is turned on it will set to the region specified. If the player halts on the FBI Warnings, press Forward Search x2 or faster.

If this method doesn`t work for you, then try the following alternative adjustments.

Step 4: in addition to the selection of language, wait for the display to say `no disk`. This may or may not happen, but the following step will definitely help...
Step 5: Press Setup, Repeat, 3, 8, 7, 6, 7 (or any of the other region code sequences), followed by 9 for region free or your desired region number.
Let me know if this alternative method works for you.

Netherlands version- uses a combination of the 2 hacks above:

Follow the method above but change the steps as described below:

Step 2. Hold down the FF and PAUSE buttons on the player.
Step 5. Press the Subtitle key on the remote - nothing should appear. (NOT THE REPEAT KEY ON METHOD 1) and then continue as per the rest of the step.
Step 8. Open the player`s tray using the front panel. (NOT THE REMOTE)
Step 9. Press Standby on the remote control.

Dealer lock (for M205):

While Unit is ON
press and Hold STOP on front panel, press power on the remote - Toggles
Dealer Lock ON/OFF (This is used to prevent customers removing a sample CD
from a display model
