I have applied the multi region remote hack to my machine,
but I notice that on the site it says that this is a temporary
hack.

what does this mean? do I lose it when the power is off?

The hack is not temporary.I have a 511 and have had no problems on regions 1 - 4.The machine has been un-plugged for 4 weeks and still works fine.

"Temporary" means you lose it when the power is switched off.

However, which hack did you use? There *is* a permanent hack for the 511, namely this one:

This works on most Samsung and Thomson models, and is *not* lost when the player is switched off at the mains.

The temporary hack only means for the 709 model its permanent on the 511 model.
