Interesting - it`s the first Acer Labs Inc (Ali) chipset menu I`ve seen - could you give us some feedback on what this babe plays and how it handles generally - I`d be very interested :)

here goes

step 1 turn on tv and dvd
step 2 press "menu" on the remote control
step 3 press "1" then "9"
step 4 scroll down to region settings press "enter"
step 5 press "0" then "enter" then "return"
And thats it you have a multi-region player

My wife bought this this morning for £36 and I have to say I am blown away by this piece of kit. So far it has attempted to play everyinthing i have thrown at it. (S)VCD complient straight from the box. Mp3`s on screen menu`s.
The only downside to this (and it`s really my own fault) the plain blank silver cd-r`s that you can buy for 8p each, well it doesn`t really like those. It WILL play them (or at least have a damn good go) but i have found that the vcd is highly pixelated and the sound blips and blerps all over the shop yet if i transfer the same movie to a memorex coated cd-r it plays fine and dandy not a care in the world.
I can`t comment on home burnt DVD`s as I don`t do that YET.
If you can get to Safeway in the morning you may be lucky and get one of these excellent budget dvd players.

The multi region Hack is so easy to apply it`s unreal. This is the first time i have hacked a dvd player and I couldn`t believe how easy it was.

If you want anymore info on this just leave a note here and I`ll check whatever I can.

is this player macro free like the compacks 5000 was after regon hack.

Just bought one of these to use as a portable with it being so small, car, caravan, work :D etc, bargain for £30 in Big W, Woolies.

I`ve tried doing the multiregion hack as mentioned above in the thread and on the Compacks webpage, but it`s not having any of it. Anyone know if they`ve changed the firmware to stop you hacking it now or something?

Is there a little knack not mentioned?

I`ve tried it with draw open, draw closed. Holding down menu while pressing 1 and 9 etc, nothing seems to bring a hidden menu up. Looked in setup button menus in case they moved it there.

I`ve found it very easy with the Dansais we`ve had, any ideas?

My mother got the same player earlier this year, and I was thinking last night, I`m sure I tried to do the hack on hers too, and couldn`t get it to work on that one either.
