1. Turn on the Player from the Player, not the Remote.
2. Open the Tray
3. Using the remote control, key in the following: 8, 1, 3, 2, 8.
4. Press Enter to cycle through Regions 1 to 6. *9* is Region free
5. Press the Return key to close out the command

Hi Paul, Sorry I have taken so long to get back to you.
I have to say that given the price the Venturer PS166W Portable is outstanding !
The supplied accessories cover ALMOST every eventually (although an s video lead is not supplied) .
I have tried dvr-r discs, dvd+r dics and all play with no problem, so anyone with a Philips DVD recorder will be able to play there discs in this unit with no problem.
I have tried playing back through my TV with the supplied leads and the picture quality is more than acceptable.
I haven`t tried the unit yet hooked up to my Dolby digital amp but the facility is there.
Just as a test I connected my video camera to the unit and played back the footage and it was fine.
I haven`t had the unit long enough to test battery life but I am considering the purchase of a second battery.
Well as you can tell I am a fan !
I repeat though given the price and the accessories and facilities for me its a winner.
Of course what I don`t know about yet is reliability, but of course on that front only time will tell.

Regards......Ted

Hi Ted - would you know if the Venturer will play VCD discs? I`ve got quite a few and really like this unit (mainly because of the price!), but that`s the sticking point. The Cyberhome portable one does play VCD so I`d be happy to spend the extra to get that, but happier if I could spend less!

Greetings.
My first contribution, hope it proves worthwhile.

I`ve not tried this, so don`t hold me to it, but there seems to be similarities between the PS166W and other Venturer player hacks. Take a look at dvd365.net, and there`s a remote hack for VCD available or other models.

Might be worth a try on the PS166W.

Squirrel,
The player does play VCD disc, if the hack for making multi-region (as described elsewhere on this forum) is set to region 9 (region free)

Enjoy!
