Wharefedale 750S hacked, but American DVD`s seem to "judder"

Jon Lane (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 12th January 2001, 23:08

I have performed the Multi Region hack on my Wharefedale 750S DVD player, and it now allows me to play American DVD`s. However, they do not play properly. I`ve tried "Austin Power 2" & "Wild Wild West" DVD`s, and both of them display a "juddering" picture. Basically, the screen refresh rate seems to slow down, or even freeze about every second or so. It makes it very hard to watch, and I`d rather not bother.

The DVD`s play perfectly well on my friends DVD player.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Mmmmm- Processing your question.

Try - SETUP.

Set it to PAL60

check your TV - if it can, set it to PAL 60.

I`m running R1 stuff on my 3 week old player, and all is fine, but my TV (although old...) switches to just about any old crap - Pal, (about 4 types) secam, german stuff, two types of NTSC and more.....) - so It might be that sorts out stuff like you`re getting

Anyhow I`m not having your issues, so doubt if I can help too much more (of course assume you`re in AV1 / RGB with good SCART)

Rgds

Thanks for your help, but I still can`t seem to get there!

Setting the DVD player to PAL60 made it even worse, and it seems my TV (a BUSH Nicam) has few settings to try. I think I`ve tried every combination of TV & DVD settings. No w I`ve got a headache, and my eyes ache.

I think what I`ll do next is take the DVD player to my girlfriends house, and try it on her Wharefdale TV - that might solve it.

Thanks again!

Dear Bounce...It sounds like you`ve got a better TV than I have.

Some Bush TV`s can`t take a PAL60 signal. Set up your player so that it`s outputing on RGB (some TV`s only accept NTSC pictures in RGB mode, otherwise they`re black & white) and just keep changing the signal standards. If not, buy a new TV. Panasonic are good and can accept NTSC 3.35 and 4.23 signals.

Today, I plugged my DVD player into my Girlfriend`s Wharefdale TV, and the Region 1 DVD`s played perfectly.

So it seems that my 4 year old Bush TV is to blame.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Jon.
