Remote Hack for LG DVD-2330P - Does it work ?

Dave Barthorpe (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 11th July 2000, 20:35

I am thinking of buying a LG DVD-2330P and have found this hack on another website.

Could someone who already has a 2330P please try it and let us know if it works? If so I will probably buy one.

Here is the hack:

This procedure must be executed within 3 seconds.
1.Turn the power on with no disc in unit.
2.Press the following buttons in order.
3.PAUSE
4.Press 3,1,4,1,5,9,1, This sets the unit to
region 1.
5.PAUSE
6.Power Off
7.Power On
8.Insert disk and enjoy.
This sequence means that the machine will now
only play region 1 discs. If you need to play
other discs you need to follow the above sequence
and replace that last 1 with a the region you
require e.g. 3,1,4,1,5,9,2, for region 2.

Many thanks in advance

Dave.

Unfortunately, this had NO effect what-so-ever on my player.

Nothing changed, no screen changes, no colour flashes, nothing.

Can I ask what is the URL of the site where you got this hack?

I have been after a hack for this player for 4 months now.

Thanks.

Mike

OK... The story so far. I bought a so-called multi-region LG DVD 2330P from a well known UK supplier which, when I received my first Region 1 discs from the USA refused to play. I did, after this get the instructions working as follows:

Turn your machine on with no DVD in the tray.
Wait for the "No Disc" message (or simething similar) to appear.
You then have three seconds to press the following sequence of keys:
3 1 4 1 5 9
where is the number of the region you want to get to (on multi-region machines the regions are 0 and 1 where 0 means not-the-USA! - I expect that non-multi-region variants still may have regions 1 to 6 as usual although I`ve not tested this).
Thus setting to region 1 will be
3 1 4 1 5 9 1
all within three seconds

A useful mnemonic is that the first 6 digits are the first 6 digits of the number pi (3.14159 etc. etc.)

The above will take a bit of practice to do within the three seconds allotted I`m afraid. It took me 20 minutes to figure out the above and get my fingers fast enough
If you`re looking for a visual clue as to whether this works or not, just before you get to entering the code number (the last digit), the display on the DVD player itself says "CODE --". As you press the last digit, the display changes to show this new code. However, remember to press the Pause key extremely quickly after this or you`ll lose your settings.

Now turn the machine off and then on again, load your disc and away you go.

The caveats to the above are as follows:

I`ve only tried in in a multi-region version of the DVD 2330P and can`t vouch for it working on any other model.

I`ve now got so p*ss*d off with this weird method of changing zones that I`ve taken the machine back within my 30 days of purchase and replaced it with a Toshiba which is much nicer and doesn`t require me to wear my fingers down to the bone.

Any help?

Well, that procedure didn`t work for me ANYWAY I tried it.

Is this hack due to the modification maybe?

I can`t gve my player back lol, as I got it on HP - so I`m in desperate need of a remote hack..

ARRGHHH!!

Looks like I`m NEVER gonna get it hacked, and I can`t afford the £60-80 for a hardware mod either :(

You might think that.. I couldn`t possibly comment.

The technical support line who sent me the fax containing the hack said it had come straight from LG, but if it doesn`t work, it doesn`t work.

As I said, it took me quite a while to master the art of hitting the remote control that fast (until the fingers started smoking).

Sounds like we need the Sisco Kid, wonder if he also has an LG player?

But to be serious for a moment, its a shame nobody else can confirm this since Im sure a lot of LG owners would love it to work.

Although I dread the flood of emails from people saying it doesn`t work if it does apply to machines other than those from Richer Sounds, you should see how many a day we get just about the Sammy 709. :-)

You say this HACK came straight from LG?

Well, thats a bit weird, as they won`t give that info out... they told me its illegal.

So I`m thinking RIcher (if it is) have these players modified, and this code is to change regions on the new chip....

Damn LG!!

I WANT A HACK!
