Acoustic Solutions 421 - Got any more hacks?

RichM (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 8th October 2002, 13:37

Hello

The multi-region and macrovision-disable hacks worked! Thank you to whoever discovered those codes.

Now, when I was doing the macrovision hack, I noticed that there were other codes in 4000/5000 ranges. Does anyone know if one of these will turn off the despised RCE?

Any advice/guidance gratefully received.

Rich

On the 451 the 4000 / 4001 option is macrovision on / off, 3000 / 3001 is parental control on / off but I don`t know what the 5000 / 5001 option does.
You could try it and see if you have a RCE disk.
Let me know - I dont have a rce disk.

I think it enables/disables vcd play.

Martyn:

The 421 is my first DVD player so I have no benchmark to compare against. That said, I have no complaints with the player. The picture is noticeably sharper than a VHS tape. Sounds are fine - mine is connected to a Cambridge Audio amp for booming stereo sound.

BTW, there is no Dolby Digital output, if thats important to you. But I believe the next Acoustic Solutions model "up" (451?), has those outputs.

By "macro switchable", I assume you mean being able to disable Macrovision - the hack I found here works fine. Same goes for the multi-region hack.

As far as I`m concerned, it was £70 well spent.
