Philips 623/723 (& Newer Models) Hacking
From what I`ve seen there`s no known multiregion hacks for the newer lines of Philips DVD players (DVD620, DVD623, DVD633, DVD723, DVD743, DVD743). The commonly used 750 hack produces the dashes, but only 11 instead of 12 - therefore implying you need a different code.
I have however seen a few UK online retailers selling these new models multiregion. Whether this is merely a mistake or assumption that they can be hacked easily on their part I don`t know. Here`s one anyway... http://www.kingdom88.com/futuretronic/listings/131.html
I will try to phone them tomorrow to find out if it truly is multiregion, and perhaps try and find out how. Looking at the firmware for the newer models (found at http://www.ianc.net/philips/downloads.shtml) there is no discernable difference (then again you`d be hard pushed to tell amongst thousands of lines of gibberish), so the answer must lie in a different set of P-Codes which could be extracted from the firmware. How to do that is beyond me.
If anyone`s got any info, place it here please.
Sam

RE: Philips 623/723 (& Newer Models) Hacking
I have a 751 bought about 2 years ago and my mum bought a 623 just before xmas hack worked on them both no problems at all, both only display 11 dashes but enter all of the 12 digits and it will work, honest!!!
To MFO you will need a one for all remote 4 digital or 6 you can get them from argos or there was a kit you could make and plug it into the paralel port on your pc that would send the code.

RE: Philips 623/723 (& Newer Models) Hacking
To whoever sent me the email this morning regarding this thread, sorry I can`t reply to my emails in work, only recieve them due to Freeserve secure server.
My mothers player is deffinatly a Philips DVD623, she, or my step dad anyway, bought it just before xmas, did the hack on it and it worked straight away, tried many R1 discs on it and they have all played no problem, not sure if they have any R3 or R4, but have been told on many occasions they will all play without any problem at all.
If you havn`t bought it yet, go to http://www.unbeatable.co.uk they will do the hack for you for about £20 on top of the price of the player (cheaper than buting a one for all remote). They then guarantee it to be region free and will save you a few quid, not many places cheaper than them

tnx for the FAST reply!
I won`t need the remote because a friend of mine has a Palm Pilot and software that can be used as a remote.
Gonna buy the player in a couple of hours. (I get it dirt cheap)
Thanks again. Good lookin out man!

OK, so now I bought the 623 and used the hack. I can confirm that the hack worked flawlessly. I didn`t count the amount of `_` that appeared, I just simply punched in the code and presto, it worked like a charm! The player now plays at least region 1,2 and 4 DVDs. It also plays SVCDs w/o any problems (read somehwere that it had problems with SVCDs).

I tried it on a virgin 623 at work and it was ok. For anyone still having issues making their newer players multiregion or anyone looking to disable macrovision on a philips player, you may want to check out http://66.197.63.122/forum/showthread.php?threadid=298
