Macrovision

I am new to this forum, but read a lot about macrovision and enabling / disabling. I gather this is copy protection stuff. I use the following method to make backups of my dvd`s ( any scart source) and it works a treat.

I have successfully backed up my dvd`s using this process.

Pre-Requirments...

Multi scart Adaptor £9.99 from Argos this has 3 inputs (A,B,C) and 1 Output.
This model I purchased allows transfers between inputs.
e.g. there are two button selectors one for the output source, which
enables multiple scarts in, to one scart out.
The other selector has options for A-B,B-C,A-C. These options in effect potentially connect A,B,C together.
Put the DVD in A and connect your video to B, and select the A-B button.

Video...

My video has two scarts at the rear and AV in front. My unit allows input from all these sources.
The Scart1 connection which is normally used as the output to the adaptor (B). can be set via the video remote control to be an input.
When in the correct position on the DVD, press record as normal.

You can now watch the dvd while backing it up !

I do not know how macrovision works, but all I can say is that with this setup I can backup dvds even with units that have macrovision enabled. It may be something to do with the way the pins are connected inside the adpator ??

Hi,
I was wondering if you could help regarding the scart adaptor from argos that allows you to back up dvds, could you tell me which one it is as there are two scart adaptors in the catalogue, one is a 3 scart to 1 scart and the other is a scart video unit,i want to make sure i get the right one and thank you if you can help.

Now, this is where I also get confused!
I have a Dansai DVD852. I managed to make it multi regional after help from others on here.(Even though, I haven`t actually tried it out yet!!)
But, I left the Macrovision thing well alone! I was given help, with flickering and poor sound(connected via a 2 connection scart box), and was told to plug my player directly into my VCR via the spare scart connection. Which I did. My VCR being Nicam stereo, the sound for some reason became so much clearer, as did the picture(Much sharper and non-flicker).

Now what I didn`t get was...!!!
I wanted to watch a DVD with friends(a rented one), but a TV programme was on I didn`t want to miss, so I pressed record and watched DVD, thinking programme was taping. Yet, I had forgot to change the channel, so my VCR was taping through, EX2, which the DVD player is attached to. When I watched the video back later that evening. The DVD I had been watching had recorded!! Perfectly, apart from the sound was very quiet... I have since been through all my DVD`s, taping about 10 minutes or more of each to try... and yup, they all recorded!!(Sound on some was perfect). Yet, I haven`t touched the Macrovision function!!! I went on to it, and it`s set to Auto... there is only Auto or No there...! Bizarre huh?! Or can my VCR be overwriting the copyright scramble thingamy??

Does anyone know what the option(On hacked screen), AutoMute is for?? Yes, I left well alone...! In case! ;)

I think you will find that the macrovision is disabled in the Dansai as soon as you do the hack no matter what the setting in the menu is. Mine is set to off but I do remember some people reporting that the Macro is off all the time. I also suspect that the scart connector from Argos is not defeating the Macro on ALT`s DVD but the Macro is off on his DVD as well. If ALT can tell us what DVD he is using and if it`s hacked for multiregion or anything at all.

Steve..
