24 Hour Party People : re-living a generation........

has anyone else seen this movie?! i saw this movie and all my youth came flooding back.. for all you kiddies out there if it wasnt for tony wilson (yes that bloke from granada reports!) and probably the stone roses and inspiral carpets the british music industry may not be what is is today. having said that the quality has gone a bit s*** recently. for the uninitiated tony wilson and factory records were responsible for giving bands such as joy division, new order and the happy mondays and also the hacienda; the club that spawned a generation of dance music and was a stepping stone for many a band. from machester a generation was born of `loose` culture with baggy pants, hooded tops and floppy hair. manchester or madchester WAS the place to be in the early 90`s with all others following suit. without this scene therye wouldnt be bands like oasis and the verve, gear like beanie hats and adidas gazelle trainers. since there hasnt been anything that has come close to the days of madchester and i dont think anything will. anyway for those who grew up in the north in the early 90`s i urge you to go and see this hilarious film and afterwards sit back, light a cig, open a beer and reflect......
"love, love will tear us apart again...."

The only problem with this film is that it shows you are of a certain age. Apart from that it`s spot on.

Sorted man,

Andrew.

As an exiled Northerner living down south who was 14/15 when the whole Madchester kicked off, I was gutted to see that about only 1 cinema in a 50 mile radius was showing it, and then it was only on for about 2 weeks max. I`m just gonna have to wait for the old DVD to come out!

Hopefully MC Tunes will make an appearance! Nish, clish bang!

Arrrrh, "The only rhyme that bites" I saw MC Tunes in his band The Dust Junkies a few years back now. One of the best bands I have seen live (behind Depeche Mode and Orbital) They kick the Chilli Peppers American asses all the way back to the states. It was a small gig at the Charlot in Leicester befor it was done up. About 250 people.

Does anyone know if they are still going?

All the best,

Andrew.

It turns out that the period explored in this film is just slightly before my time, which is probably the reason I enjoyed it so much: it`s steeped in the heady flow of nostalgia that only mythologising can bring. Fitting indeed for a period that is certainly not how anyone remembers it (if they remember it at all that is.)

I reckon they should knock out a Stone Roses dvd...even if its the Blackpool Live video, it might have dodgy sound on the recording but what a concert!!!

I`d have thought their old record label would be up for it...they`ve milked em dry enough before what with the debut album being released in about 4 different guises, and thats before you get to the Greatest Hits and Remix albums.

Yeah the Fools Gold vid was class....so good that Oasis felt the need to rip it off wholesale.

Aha! SO, Tony Wilson is the A**hole we have to blame for the likes of the Happy Mondays/Oasis & the whole Madchester thing? He ought to be lined up with the rest of them & shot with sh*t for crimes against music!
