Bush DVD 2002

anyone had any problems replaying R1 discs in Pal? I have experienced jittery pans and zooms on several R1 discs. It looks as if it is performing a crude standards conversion by throwing away fields.

This sounds more like 3:2 pulldown, which interlaces fields from different frames. Theres an excellent article on DVDFile about it and how progressive scan players avoid artifacts such as this.

Thanks for the reply Robert. Yes, that was my immediate thought until I asked around several people who had different DVD players eg the Wharfedale 750 and the Samsung 709. The Wharfedale apparently has a standards switching menu which can exhibit a similar problem when set to anything other than "auto" I`m told. Of course I haven`t seen for myself yet how these other units perform.

Had no problems with my sons 2002. Plays everything we have tried. Wasn`t aware that it had a zoom feature though

Errr, it doesn`t.
I was referring to a zoom as in the photography of the film ie tracking shot, zoom , pan, MCU, BCU, midshot etc.

All the best
