TV licence monthly

A question for those paying TV licence monthly.

My daughter is getting organised to rent a flat in UK when we go back to Oz next year, as she is staying on to finish her job requirements for another two years to get qualified.

She may have to pay the TV licence monthly (assuming if the flat owner does not pay it) but she and I are confused.
Anually you pay it all as one lump sum (I do that).

Having checked TV monthly conditions, it seems its £12.50 a month, but if you are starting from scratch you pay double for the first six months which is a years TV licence, then it reverts to £12.50 a month.

So tell me, when does that 6 x £12.50, ever get paid back to her?
That is what she is asking me, as she intends to join us in Oz later.

You basically pay 6 months in advance and request a refund after 12 months when you give a valid reason for not needing a Tv license. Get the over payment paid back into your account at 12 months; just make sure you don’t run a day over the 12 months or you’ll get 5 months.

Ok, she can request the refund when she leaves UK, but not sure what you mean by a day over the 12 months.

Say she starts on June 2019, and leaves two years later, when does she ask fo rrefund?

It's something that always confused me since I started renting/buying own house 20 years ago, I never really wanted to pay in a lump.

But why should i pay double per month, as I will always need a TV license I will never regain those 6 months of payments. It really doesn't make sense!!
So I pay quarterly as it isn't doesn't add anything!

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i`m dying are the best i`ve ever had.

We have been discussing this and it looks like the bank of mum and dad will pay annually, if she needs a licence.  Thanks.
