Help with my ipod Nano 5th Gen.

Strangerer (Competent) posted this on Friday, 27th May 2011, 16:57

I`ve been trying to sync music to my ipod with no success. If I add files to my Library they show up on screen but when I go to sync it I get a message at the top of the screen telling me it is sync`d with seconds. The albums do not appear on my ipod. If I click the Music tab in my devices I can drag albums over and they auto sync and appear on my ipod. I know this works and I can listen to my music but I like the way it looks on Library. Why won`t it sync via Library like it does on my girlfriends ipod ?

On the front page in itunes (when the ipod is connected) is the "Manually manage..." option ticked?

Bit of an Apple/ipod noob. Where is the "manually manage" option located ?

Just Googled where to find it and yes it is ticked.

That`s why then. If all your music on the ipod is already in your iTunes library, then untick the option and sync as you want.
Note, it will wipe the ipod of anything already on there.

Worked like a charm Miles. Thanks a lot. Though I don`t remember the fiancée having to uncheck boxes and she didn`t have this trouble. Thanks again. Sorry just another quick question. If I remove the files from my PC will the ipod delete them when I resync new music ?

Yep. If you remove them from the iTunes library then it will try and delete them from the ipod as well. Although it should warn you (if I remember correctly).

Hope she doesn`t find out about your girlfriend ;) (Your first post above).

The default option is to auto-sync. At some point you must have ticked it (by accident perhaps) and then it`s just stuck like that.

Yeah the girlfriend/fiancée thing. Better delete these posts before either of them see. Or I could organise a gagging order.

Yep, because that worked out really well for a certain (un-named) Manchester United player ;)
