Question for the webmaster .....
Guys,
Why doesn`t the NEW symbol next to a thread (which has been updated since my last visit) disappear after I`ve accessed it, in the same way it does for the news items? It`s a real pain because unless I remember to click the button at the top to mark them as read, I don`t know whether there have been updates or not.
Any chance of changing this?
Cheers,
T

No doubt Robert will add a more comprehensive answer, but it is not easy to code this feature into the forums section of the site. It is an issue we are aware of, but for the moment this is what happens. The forum code is very different from the main site code New flags, and as such does not operate the same way.

What he said.
Other forums like the popular UBB software will show flags on all threads since you last visited. Therefore if you close your browser and come open it later you see the NEW flags, but if you don`t close it then they stay there for that visit.
This is a workable option and wouldn`t require too much more coding. The question is would people prefer this to the current system?

Robert,
it sounds like a good system to me. See what others think and if you`re agreeable, give it a go ...

RE: Question for the webmaster .....
I agree with you - clicking the `mark as read` does slow things down and it would be a lot easier to see which ones you`ve accessed at a glance rather than having to remember to click it.
Colour coding or some such thing would be very welcome...
RE: Question for the webmaster .....
I`d have to agree with this...

Its got my vote.:)
RE: Question for the webmaster .....
The other option is a Mark all read that optionally marks all forums read, that saves you doing it for each forum.
RE: Question for the webmaster .....
I vote for the proposed new system. Seems a better way to do it.
