Page 1 of Wireless adapter with good range?

Hi guys,

I`ve now tried two wireless adapters on my Windows 7 64bit system, but can`t seem to get a decent signal out of them. They are this one (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_9&products_id=109342) and this one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laptone-Wireless-Internet-Adaptor-150Mbps/dp/B001EM0P0S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289395425&sr=8-1-catcorr).&tag=myrev09-21

My PC sits underneath a table, and is about 11 metres from my router, in almost a complete straight line, on the same floor of the house, so I can`t understand why the signal is so bad.The router sits on table that is about one metre high.

Am I stuck with dragging a long ethernet cable through the house, or is there a better adapter I can try, or anything at all?

How do you change the channel on it, Rob? I was just plugging and playing, although I did download new drivers, to no avail.

this will enable you to use one device. to use more equipment, simply add a plug for each

as for changing your wireless channel, log into your router and have a look under "wireless
settings"... you *should* see an option to change channel. most routers default to either
channel 1 or 6 (hence wireless interference with neighbours), so choose something like
12.

Have you also tried using a USB extension cable to re-site the current dongle in a slightly different position/orientation?

I`ve seen this happen where someone had a dongle in the USB slot and it came out horizontal, the way it`s antennae worked it meant a router above or below the PC got brilliant signal, but in a straight line got almost zero.
Quick addition of the usb cable, moved to a vertical orientation and the above/below went to almost zero but the router on the other side of the same room went off the scale.

Might not work, but worth a try cos ya probably got one lying about from an old card reader or can get one for a couple of quid.

i know my "3" wifi donle works better when attached to a short (300mm) USB 
extension lead. apparently minimises interference from the pc / laptop

You`ll need to go into the router settings.  For my netgear router you type in 192.168.0.1 and then log in...

I read on a forum that changing it to Channel 6 makes a big difference...
