Stargate 15th Anniversary Blu-ray bargain

Draco (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 5th January 2010, 13:16

The old expression `It pays to shop around` saved me a few quid this morning.

I wanted a copy of the "Stargate 15th Anniversary Edition [Blu-ray]" and noticed that Play.com had it listed as a UK release on 22nd February and at a cost of £16.99.

I checked the USA Amazon site, noted that the disc is declared as `All Regions` then ordered a copy from them. Total cost including postage to me is £11.87. (The actual cost of the disc is $11.99.)

Fifteen years since the origional stargate film.
I must get this, thanks for the info.

I remember going to the films years ago to see this, it was so low on publcity, that I could not make my mind up to see it or not, and found out while watching that it was so jaw droppingly amazing.

Funny how these fantastic `epic si-fi` films like Stargate and Bladerunnner just appeared without much attention.

I then was hooked on the Stargate SGI saga for years, then SGI Atlantis and now SGI Universe, will it never end, I hope not :D

Mind you the origional film was still the best `episode` of all, Yeh !

Oh dear god no.
Please, kill it off now.
It has NOTHING to do with Stargate except they have uniforms with SG on them and rings that can transport them.
It`s Battlestar Galactica with no Cylons chasing them and crap plots with crap filming techniques...

but then, mebbe I`m being too harsh on it ;)

Not at all. If anything you`ve been quite generous. Episode 2 in the desert... OH MY GOD, dull as dish water and it was the second episode of a new series!!!

So, is the anniversary edition worth the extra?
I`m only asking as the standard Stargate BD is under £7 at Amazon

I found the BD Extended version for $7.50 in Wal-Mart, then found the 15th Anniversary with 2 extra mins of footage for $23, at that point I gave up until I find that edition in the bargain bin.

Not convinced myself so I picked up the Extended BD before Christmas.  The only thing you need to be wary of is that the beginning gives away the identity of Ra right away and then repeats itself later.  If you`re fine with that then you should be ok.

Can`t see anything in the Extras package that would make the 15th Anniv version a must-have...

Apparently on Hotukdeals, the picture quality on the original Blu Ray wasn`t very good, but it`s a lot better on the new anniversary edition.

I`ve never seen Stargate :o

It`s one of those random films that I quite wanted to see at the time, never got around to and as it got fairly average reviews when it first came out just never gone out of the way to see it.

Used to watch a bit of SG1 when I was in uni as it was on around teatime, but not enough to get into it or anything. With 12/13seasons plus all the spin offs etc, it seems too big to get into now!

The difference is that the new one has been remastered and colour corrected so that the palette is more natural and the contrast isn`t as hot. However, every version of Stargate I`ve ever seen has that blown out look, so I`ve no idea which is more accurate. Depends if the filmmakers were involved with the transfer or not. The original UK disc is actually reasonably good looking as far as catalogue titles go.
