Brake Caliper Return Springs for Ford Focus!

Mine r missing from both brake calipers so am thinking:-
What r the chances of them falling off?
How much do they cost?
Has garage forget to put them on back in May when they last did my brakes!
or has another garage remove them! (If dont cost much then probably not!)

:/

Are you sure?I have never seen return springs on brake callipers on any of the cars I have had though not a Focus. If you are concerned just check with your local ford dealer,or ask at Halfords, they can soon check for you on the parts computer ask them if you can have a look at the screen (don`t ask when they are busy) I have always found them helpful though others may disagree.

What return springs? Never heard of return springs to be honest. What do they do? Do you mean the metal retaining clips - like a bent piece of about 3mm dia `bar`?

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

The rear drum brakes can have springs in them to pull the pads off the braking surface. Shown here in yellow
Assuming the Focus front discs are very similar to the Mondeo, there arent any springs as the others have stated. The retaining clips are sure to be there or you would be missing pads on the outside of the discs.

Also seems a strange thing to advise on, brakes are a pretty fundamental part of your carand any missing parts would surely result in them not working properly and failing the MOT. I would call them and ask them for more details.

Have you had any issues with the handbrake?

I changed all the brakes on our Mk3 Mondeo a few times, can`t be a lot different in a Focus.

The handbrake operates the pads via a lever and spring setup, instead of the more conventional drum in disk system.

It could be the springs that tension the lever connected to the handbrake cable, no idea what they are called sorry.

Had a search around for pictures, this was about the best I could find :

The spring would be just below and connected to the grey hook on the back of the caliper for the handbrake cable. It`s just in front of the red suspension spring.

All the best

Gerald.
