Telephone scam from a supposed pc tech company?
I`ve just received a call from a supposed pc tech company that knew that I was using XP (even though I`m not), so I decided to go along with it for a while.
The guy, who sounded like he was from India, then insisted that I could have terrible viruses, and corrupt motherboards etc., which I didn`t know about, and asked if I had internet connection etc. I told him that it was doubtful that I had something so dreadful silently affecting my pc.
He then wanted to know what company I used to maintain the pc, to which I responded that I did it myself. He then asked if I was a technician. I told him I wasn`t, but I knew enough about computers to know that everything was fine with my pc. He insisted that I didn`t and that I should go to the pc and follow his directions in order to help me rid my computer of these unknown terrors.
I told him that I didn`t have my pc as my family member has borrowed it for a few days. He then persisted to try and arrange another time when my pc would be available so that he could call again to help me. I informed him that I didn`t know when that would be and he finally tired and buggered off.
I wish I`d gone a little further with this to see exactly what he was up to. He was obviously up to no good, and I would imagine it would`ve only been a matter of time before he asked me to download a file, or part with my credit card details.
Has anyone else experienced similar?
