I`d appreciate a chance to have a chat to you, if only to here it from the horse`s mouth, so to speak. I don`t have a million quid in my back pocket - that`s simply what it costs to run two offices with really caring staff over 8 years. I understand that you`re expressing something deeper and more important, though. There are lots of people working hard for far too little and it`s a hard time, I truly understand that. The expenses thing seems to me to simply be a way into that. Let me know if I can buy you a coffee (not on expenses!) or pop around to your place. You don`t need to reply right now, just give it a bit of thought if you like and let me know. And thanks for your email - it`s heartfelt and I have to learn from what you and people like you have to say.
Best wishes
eric
I await the outcome of your meeting with him. It just shows how scared these people are of falling off the gravy train that you got a personal reply!
Anyhow £1million over 8 years is till £125,000 per year...and much of these "office cost" went to his family or were unreceipted???

Not really. I`ve written to my local MP a few times and he`s always replied within 24 hours. You can do it through www.writetothem.com, and a log is taken of how quick they are to respond etc. So it`s in their interest to get back to you.

In fact I believe they have to reply to you as your member of parliament.

Well that f***ing trog Blears didn`t reply to me the f***ing moose.
Written to Jane Kennedy three times during this Parliament once on an impending vote in the commons and twice on matters with a more personal connection though still affected by government policy.
One reply on the impending Commons vote, which was a mail merge obviously banged out to every query. Totally ignored on the other two. I`m afraid as my elected representative she doesn`t appear to be doing much representing.
On the plus side her name doesn`t appear to have surfaced in the expenses row (yet).

Turns out they don`t have to reply apparently.
This website is quite good to find out how your MP voted on certain issues and what they`ve been up to in Parliament (when they aren`t having their moats cleaned): http://www.theyworkforyou.com/

If you do meet him it might be worth asking about his highly paid and well qualified staff...
according to Panorama these MPs have a habit of employing the family - and paying through the nose for them.

Not just MP`s , the local councillors are just as bad , one near here has claimed nearly £15,000 in childcare costs for his WIFE to look after HER daughter while He`s sat at home writing emails >:( >:( >:(
Quote:
A COUNCILLOR claimed childcare allowance from public funds to have his 13-year-old daughter looked after, while he was at home writing official e-mails.
Kevin Etheridge claimed the allowance even though his daughter was looked after by his wife and other members of his family when he was on council duties.
He even admitted the allowance was sometimes used "to take them away on a trip for a night or two".
