Getting a new MP3 player - recommendations?

JohnnyTV (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 23rd May 2009, 07:38

Well my Archos has just died this morning (recommended from here incidentally) and it was a great little player, had it for just over 3 years so can`t complain.

So just looking for recommendations for a new one. I`ve only got about 25gb of music and totally not arsed about it being able to view photos/play videos/internet access etc etc, just a decent music player that doesn`t cost too much.

Also don`t really want to go down the ipod route, I prefer the hard drive style drag n drop that the archos had.

So can anyone point me in the right direction please?

The Cowon S9 looks like a really nice player.
I have a Cowon D2 & its the best mp3 player I`ve ever owned.
One thing I would miss with the S9 which is on the D2 is an SD card slot.
Mine also has a DAB radio. But the S9 is much slimmer & has a larger screen.

If you were not looking at spending as much money as a Cowon, Dabs has a nice 4gb Samsung YP-Q1 on offer. £45.16
It also works with the BBC iplayer.
I know someone who has one of these, its a nice looking player & he`s happy with his.

Thanks both, yeah that player looks very nice but was only looking to spend around £100-£150 as I don`t use it that much, only at the gym really.

The 4gb one looks nice too but I`d like to get one about 16gb minimum ideally.

I recently got a silver Sandisk Sansa Clip 8gb from Currys for £39.99. It`s perfect for the gym. Read the review here at anythingbutipod.com (Editors top choice)

Sony have a new range of MP3 players out, complete with OLED screens. 8)
You`ll get damned good sound out of a Sony straight out of the box.
I`m an itouch fanboy though.
Since buying decent headphones (Shure) and changing to Amazon`s 256kbps downloads, the sound quality is excellent.
I also rip CDs using lossless.
I`m more concerned about quality than quantity, so space isn`t an issue.
