Anyone recommend a good external CD-RW for a good price?

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 6th January 2002, 12:17

I`m after an external CD-RW for my laptop and was wondering if anyone has any recommendation...

I`ve seen the USB Yamaha 2200UX-VX from ebuyer.com for £160 - is this any good.

thanks

I had an internal Yamaha CDRW, and it was AWFUL - 3 coasters for every good disk burned. I would never buy a Yamaha CD product, and that`s my advice to you, based on personal experience and also what others said about yamaha products afterwards....

Try one from HP or CreativeLabs. I replaced my yamaha with an external HP USB CDRW (6-6-4) - slow, but not 1 coaster in a year`s burning.

I got my HP from buy.co.uk, and it was under £150.

I can`t be bothered looking to see if it`s still available. But I bought an HP8120 external about a year ago and it rules. It`s only 4x4x6 (or something slow like that) but in all the time of using it (with TDK Reflex 74Min CD-R`s) I have only made about 1 coaster and burnt about 50 CD`s from data to music. It works like a dream.
